Gretta Mae
(Durbin) Frey
age 88, of Frys Valley, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013 in Community Hospice House of New Philadelphia. She was born Oct. 23, 1925 in New Philadelphia. She was a daughter of the late James L. Durbin and Ola P. Rainsberg Durbin. Gretta was a 1943 graduate of Tuscarawas High School. She worked in the office at Union Hospital, was previously employed by Jones Fabric Store in New Philadelphia, and worked with gas and oil leases for Resource Exploration. She enjoyed making and teaching rughooking, and enjoyed cross stitching, sewing, quilting, reading, and oil painting.
Her husband, Robert W. Frey died Jan. 29, 1997. They were married June 20, 1944. Surviving are three daughters: Virginia (James) Ault, Cynthia (Dalton) Renner, and Karen (Thomas) Morrison, all of New Philadelphia; six grandchildren: Crystal (Jason) Kirk of Chattanooga, Tenn., Darlene Renner of Midvale, Heather (DJ) Milburn of Uhrichsville, Carol (Ryan) Lippencott, Darin Renner, and Chad Morrison, all of New Philadelphia; three great-grandchildren: Evan Kirk and Kasey Kirk, both of Tennessee and Gavin Maurer of Dennison; various step-grandchildren and step-great- grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Durbin of New Philadelphia and brother-in-law, Richard Frey of Gnadenhutten and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, James A. Durbin and a sister, Norma Jean Keaton.
Services with be held at noon on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 at Frys Valley Moravian Church, 594 Frys Valley Road SW, New Philadelphia 44663, with Pastor Chris Johnson and Rev. Darrell Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Frys Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. A dinner will follow the funeral at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in Gretta's memory to Frys Valley Church or Community Hospice House of New Philadelphia. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Community Hospice for all of their kindness and care for Gretta.
