Harold L. "Cotton" Kail
age 84 of Jewett passed away Sunday, July 7, 2013 in Sunnyslope Nursing Home, Bowerston. Born March 18, 1929 in Scio, he was the son of the late Thelma L. Kail Carman and Chester B. Carman. He attended New Athens Elementary and Brown Country School and graduated from Jewett High School in 1947 where he played basketball and was a member of the FFA. Cotton was a hard worker all of his life, he worked for his uncle Wilbert Kail for over eight years delivering candy to local retail stores and when Wilbert sold the business to Charles Stratton, he continued working for over six years. He also worked for 23 years at Purviance Furniture and Funeral Home in Scio. Cotton was very civic minded being a member of the Jewett Presbyterian Church, Jewett Athletic Boosters for eight years, Jewett Water Board for six years, Jewett Little League for eight years where he served as President and with the Jewett Ruritan Club for 45 years (with perfect attendance), where he served as past president and zone governor.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Lou Chaney Kail with whom he would have celebrated 48 years of marriage this August; a son, Dana (Tanya) Kail,; stepdaughter Kathy (Bill) Gartrell; grandchildren, Martin, Brenna and Tessa; step-granddaughter, Kara; siblings, Mae Blackstone and her companion, Roy Hildreth, Betty Thompson and Chester (Sandy) Carman, Jr.; an aunt, Emma Kail; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Koch Funeral Home, Scio with his cousin Rev. LuAnn Youngman officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Jewett. Friends may call Thursday from 5-8 p.m. and Friday 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
