82, a resident of Deersville for much of her life, passed away at Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia on Tuesday, April 2, 2014, after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. Born July 15, 1931 in Freeport, she was a daughter of the late Clyde Clinton and Ida Mae (Rose) McKibben.
A 1949 graduate of Freeport High School, Helen worked at the former Scio Pottery in her younger years and later in the title office at the Harrison County Courthouse. Before her retirement, she moved to Florida for 15 years where she was employed by Walt Disney World, the most enjoyable job of her life. Upon moving back to Ohio, she lived in the Gnadenhutten area on her son-in-law's farm, enjoying the quiet life and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren until her declining health prevented her. She also enjoyed sewing and golfing in her spare time. Helen was Baptist by faith.
She will be deeply missed by her loving family which includes a daughter and son-in-law, Janet (Cope) and Richard Brown of Gnadenhutten; a son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Jami Cope of Deersville; granddaughters, Amy (Brown) Smith of Dover and Sydney Sayre and Emily Cope of Deersville; great-grandchildren, Laiken Bantum of Hubert, N.C. and Pierce and Grant Smith of Dover; and several nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Howard Cope; a grandson, Eric Jason Brown; and a sister and brother-in-law, Alice (McKibben) and Floyd McMillen.
Services for Helen will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday April 5, 2014 at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Internment will follow in Deersville's Patterson Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call on the family from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Helen's family respectfully request that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH 44663 who helped Helen through her journey.
