Jimmie D. Potts
age 67, of Dover, Ohio, and formerly of Bowling Green, Ky, died late Saturday afternoon, May 11, 2013 in the Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia surrounded by his loving family. He was born Aug. 2, 1945 in Parkersburg, W. Va. and was the son of the late John William and Goldie Huggins Potts.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother Eleanor Potts, a brother Charlie Potts, and three sisters Kathleen Dearth, Carol Osborne, and Bernelda "Nell" Kerr.
He retired in 1996 as an electrician for the Republic Steel Co. at Canton, O., after 30 years of service. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Viet Nam Era. Jimmie was an accomplished gospel singer who performed as "Jim Potts and the Redemption Singers". He formerly owned and operated a small engine repair shop near Carrollton, Ohio. He was a thoughtful and loving father and grandfather who will be missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his friend and former spouse Linda Bowling Chaffin of Bowling Green, Ky; four sons and a daughter Timothy (Nikki) Potts of Malvern, Ohio, Todd Potts of Dover, Troy (Barbie) Potts of Carrollton, Seth Potts of Bowling Green, Ky, and Mrs. David (Monica) Fell of Dover; 11 grandchildren and a great-grandson; four sisters and a brother, Betty Louise Carr of Hollywood, Fla., Mrs. Nick (Verna) Habian of Florence, Ore., Mrs. John (Debbie) Herbert of New Philadelphia, Mrs. Ted (Karen) Dulkoski of Jewett, Ohio, and Greg Potts of Canton, Ohio.
Funeral services will be conducted at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2013 in the Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville with Rev. Marion Sandefur officiating. Calling hours will be held from 3 p.m. until time of services in the funeral home. A reception will follow services in the Leavittsville Church Annex. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to help the family defray expenses by forwarding your donation to the Dover-Phila Federal Credit Union.
