John C. Simon
84, of Bolivar, died Monday July 29, 2013 at 8:30 p.m. in Hennis Care Centre at Bolivar after an extended illness. Born Nov. 16, 1928 in Bolivar he was a son of the late Kalmon and Rose (Elsie) Simon. He retired from the Timken Company as a grinder after 42 years. John was a member of St. John United Church of Christ at Bolivar. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of the Bolivar American Legion, Bolivar Sportsman's Club and the Zoar Gun Club. He was an avid hunter and also enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by his wife, the former Esther Burkhart whom he married Aug. 7, 1948. Also surviving are his children, Sharon (Gary) Shaub of Bolivar, Jonathon Clay Simon of East Sparta and David Wayne (Karen) Simon of Bolivar; five grandchildren, Ian and Avery Simon, Don Shaub, Shanna and Shane Simon; two great-grandchildren, Grayson Shaub and Khaleesi Simon; and a sister, Mary Rogers of Massillon. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers, Frank, Kelly, Joe, Steve, William and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013 at 11 a.m. in St. John United Church of Christ at Bolivar. Rev. Melodie Rezac will officiate and burial will follow in Fort Laurens Cemetery at Bolivar where the Bolivar American Legion will conduct military graveside honors. Friends may call Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Lebold-Smith Funeral Home at 248 Park Ave., Bolivar and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorials be made to St. John United Church of Christ at P.O. Box 156, Bolivar, OH 44612.
