Lillian L. Gerber
90, of Sugarcreek died Thursday, July 17, 2014 at New Dawn Nursing Home in Dover. She was born May 24, 1924 in Dundee to the late Paul and Flora (Straus) Stress. She worked in the Garaway School System as a cook in the cafeteria and later worked as a sewer and made race horse harnesses at Mast Leather in Walnut Creek. She was a member of the Sugarcreek Lutheran Parish and the Sugarcreek American Legion Homer Weiss Post 494 Auxiliary. She was married to Conrad Paul Arnold who died in France Dec. 9, 1944 while serving in the Armed Forces. She married Ferman Gerber in 1947. He passed away June 7, 1984.
She is survived by her children, Harry (Claudia) Arnold, Pat (Leonard) Landis, Jeff (Clara) Gerber and Chris (Philip) Hochstetler; her grandchildren, David (Cass) Arnold, Karen (Matt) Mangan, Peter (Erin) Arnold, Missy Jenkins, Jason (Liz) Hochstetler and Brittany (John) Hershberger; 12 great- grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husbands, she is preceded in death by her brother, Paul Stress; and her sister, Dorothy Balder.
Services will be held Monday, July 21, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Smith-Varns Funeral Home at Sugarcreek with Rev. Ellen Mills officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery in Sugarcreek. Friends may call on Monday from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. at the funeral home prior to services.
