Merle and Richard
Together Again

Merle Ilene Schwitzgable
age 90 of Canton went home to be with her Lord on Monday afternoon at home after a brief illness. Many had just celebrated her 90th birthday with a wonderful party. Born in Gilmore, Ohio to the late Harry and Rachel Mae (Quillen) Dunlap, Merle was a graduate of Uhrichsville High and Asbury University of Kentucky. She taught elementary school in Canton for five years. She was a member of the Wilderness Center, Audubon Society, American Rosie the Riveters, North Canton Garden Club, First Church of the Resurrection and East Ohio Emmanuel Emmaus (#15). She still enjoyed flower arranging, gardening, worldwide missions, cooking & birding. In addition to her parents, in April 2012 Merle was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Richard (Schwitzgable Plumbing & Heating).
Merle was the oldest and only surviving sibling of Robert, Forest, Al and Mary. A great-grandson, Ezekiel Durant, also preceded her to heaven. Merle is survived by her children, Denise (Jim) Aman, Steve (Linda) Schwitzgable, Gary (Patti) Schwitzgable and Amy Schwitzgable; grandsons, Zach (Tanya) and Matt (Jana) Durant, Kevin (Ericka) and Mark Schwitzgable; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Church of the Resurrection with Dr. Bruce Mont officiating. Interment will be private for the family. Friends may call on Friday 4 to 7 p.m. at the church and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Church of the Resurrection, 901 E. Tuscarawas St., Canton, OH 44707 or Samaritan's Purse International Relief, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607. You may sign our guest book at:
