Ralph M. Miller
91 of Walnut Creek and formerly of Sugarcreek died Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Pomerene Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was born Oct. 13, 1923 in Dalton to the late Milo W. and Bessie (Pfister) Miller. He was a graduate of Ohio State University College of Optometry and was optometrist in Sugarcreek for 36 years until his retirement in 1988. Following his retirement he moved to Colorado and lived there for 24 years and then returned to Walnut Creek in 2012. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ at Sugarcreek, the American Optometric Association, a former member of the Sugarcreek Rotary and was an Army Veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, the former Annabel Lee whom he married Sept. 27, 1947; his three children, Bruce (Karen) Miller of Moscow, Idaho, Terry (Betty) Miller of Ragersville and Jennifer (Bob) Kohler of Colorado Springs, Colo; grandson, Scott Kohler of Colorado Springs; his brother, Don Miller of Walnut Creek and his sister, Marilyn Kandel of Berlin. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Plance and three brothers, Blake, Dale and Robert Miller.
Services will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Smith-Varns Funeral Home at Sugarcreek. Burial will be in St. Johns United Church of Christ Cemetery in Walnut Creek where Military Honors will be conducted by the Sugarcreek American Legion. Friends may call on Tuesday from 12 (Noon) 2 p.m. at the funeral home prior to services. Memorials may be made to the Donor's favorite local charity.
