Raymond Dean McConnell

96, of New Philadelphia, formerly of Uhrichsville, passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 13, 2018. Born December 22, 1921 in Uhrichsville, Ohio, he was a son of the late George Albert and Birdie May (Pocock) McConnell. Raymond was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Dover Moose Lodge #707 and Uhrichsville Eagles Aerie #2264 who enjoyed dealing in and restoring antiques. Raymond was the owner and proprietor of The Auto Store in Uhrichsville for many years and had also worked for West End Garage. He was a longtime member of Feedspring Church.

On October 7, 1942, he married Emeline E. (Gray) McConnell with whom he enjoyed nearly 33 years of marriage until her passing on October 2, 1975. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy Jirles; four brothers: Robert, Ronald, Raymond and Eugene McConnell; and two sisters, Pearl Smith and Maxine McConnell. He is survived by his son-in-law, Donald Jirles; grandchildren: Elizabeth (Leslie) McCue, Dawn Ann (Johnny) Davis and Daniel Jirles; great-grandchildren: Matthew and Marcus McCue, Chanell (Todd) Giumenti, Jordan and Rance Davis, and Tyler and Brianna Jirles; 19 great-great-grandchildren; a dear friend of 28 years, Doris Morrison; and many nieces and nephews.

Services, officiated by Pastor Brian Flood, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow beside his beloved wife in Uhrichsville's Union Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the and Community Hospice.
