Richard W. Swank
79, of Bolivar, died Saturday, May 11, 2013 in his residence after an extended illness. Born June 15, 1933 in Bolivar he was a son of the late Charles E. and Emma L. (Rothacher) Swank. He retired in 1991 from the Gradall Company at New Philadelphia after 30 years. Richard was a member of the Bolivar United Methodist Church. He was a Korean War veteran, a member of the Bolivar American Legion Post #190, a member of the Bolivar Sportsman Club and was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Bolivar Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, the former Charlene Miller whom he married Sept. 27, 1952. Also surviving are three children, Randy (Tina) Swank of Dover, Marijo (Ron) Kandel of Dover and Albert "Poncho" (Deb) Swank of Bolivar; grandchildren, Terry Swank of New Philadelphia, Rob (Meghan) Swank of North Canton, Amber (Jake) Stephen of Tuscarawas, Laura (Vince) Rogers of Akron, Bronson Kandel of Denver, Colo., Roni-jo (Matt) Burns of Stow aand Mia Trustdorf of Dover; step-grandchildren, Keith Spaar of Bolivar, J.C. (Tabby) Spaar of Mineral City and Aaron (Pepper) Swartzentruber of Wooster; great-grandchildren, Catalina and Cayden Rogers, Reilly and Teagan Swank, Kole, Jackson and Tyler Stephen and Attison Joelle Burns; step-great-grandchildren, Regan Spaar, Chandler and Tionna Zeti, Trent Leeper and Logan, Brittany and Aubrey Swartzentruber; two brothers, Donald (Pat) Swank of New Philadelphia and Gary (Kim) Swank of Minerva; and two sisters, Connie (Hank) Mason of Zoar and Vicki Kieffer of Dover; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Scott B. Swank and a brother, Harold Delbert Swank.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 12 Noon at the Bolivar United Methodist Church in Bolivar. Rev. Dr. Joel Adkins and Rev. Joy Goforth will officiate and burial will follow in Fort Laurens Cemetery in Bolivar where the Bolivar American Legion will conduct military honors. Friends may call Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church. Lebold-Smith Funeral Home in Bolivar is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Bolivar United Methodist Church.
