Ruie and PaulRuie Ann Horsfall
78 of New Philadelphia, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013 at New Dawn Retirement Community in Dover after a brief illness. Born Feb. 18, 1935 in Freeport, she was a daughter of the late John Adorian and Lucy Ann (Short) Starkey. After her graduation from Freeport High School in 1955, Ruie attended cosmetology school in Akron in preparation for her long career as a beautician. She will be fondly remembered by her many clients at the salons where she worked which included Paris, Jaffe's, Modernair, and most recently, A Cut Above. She was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in New Philadelphia.
On October 21, 1990, Ruie married Paul A. Horsfall who preceded her in death on May 28, 2012. She was also preceded in death by a brother, John L. Starkey; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and John Salsberry; and a niece, Carmen Marlatt, as well as her parents. Ruie's surviving family includes a sister, Callene Peterson of Gnadenhutten; sisters- and brother-in-law, Ethel Starkey of Louisville, and Sylvia Stein, Barbara Walker and Harold and Joan Horsfall of New Philadelphia; stepdaughters, Becky (Dave) Brown of Bolivar, Paula (Rick) Rohrer of Navarre and Marla (Steve) Struhar of Dover; many step- grandchildren and step- great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Kelly Stoyanovich and Jeff, Lacy and Jame Marlatt to whom she was especially close. She will also be missed by her beloved pets, Toot (her dog) and Kee (her cat).
Services for Ruie, officiated by the Rev. Hugh B. Berry, will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow beside her husband in Fry's Valley Moravian Church Cemetery near Gnadenhutten. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to St. Peter's Lutheran Church and the Tuscarawas County Humane Society.
