Thomas Mizer Obituary

"Together Again"
Thomas M. Mizer
the best dad in the world, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012 sometime between his favorite TV shows, "The Young and the Restless" and "Judge Judy". Our world will never be the same. Born Dec. 4, 1933 in Strasburg he was a son of the late George and Hyanthia Shively Mizer. Tom was also preceded in death by his wife, Carol A. Mizer on April 9, 2010; brother, John Mizer; sister, Ellen Bowers; and granddaughter, Cassidy Eichel. Tom was a hard worker who retired as a truck driver, but was also the service manager for the former Haas Chevrolet in Strasburg, served as the Zoning Inspector for the Village of Strasburg and was a 25 year volunteer for the Strasburg Fire Department. Tom also enjoyed life, when he wasn't working he raced stock cars and go-karts and you could always find him at an auction taking great pleasure in bringing home a box of assorted items he bought for a dollar. Tom had a pretty big sweet tooth as well, and his best advice was, "They're two things in life to remember……………..Rocky Road and Pralines and Cream." He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was also a member of the World Karting Association and the Strasburg Pullers Association.
A wonderful and loving dad and grandpa, who also had a great sense of humor, will be sadly missed by his children, Michael Mizer of Canton, Kathy (Gary) Little of New Philadelphia, Rick Mizer of Strasburg and Julie (Jeff) Gibbs of New Philadelphia.; grandchildren, Adam and Sara Little and Joey and Gaby Eichel; step-grandchildren, Trisha, Mason and Keaton Gibbs.
A service celebrating Tom's life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover with Pastor Rich VanArsdalen officiating. Interment will be in the St. Aloysius Cemetery at Strasburg. Friends can call at the funeral home on Friday from 4-7 p.m. Those wishing to express their fondest memories of Tom may do so by visiting the on line obituaries link on the funeral homes website.
