Jay F. Cole
age 80, of Uhrichsville, was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 3, 2014 from Sunny Slope Nursing Home in Bowerston, after a bravely and hard fought battle with cancer. Born Oct. 14, 1933 in Uhrichsville, he was a son of the late Joseph Jeddiah and Clara Gertrude (Brackin) Cole.
A lifelong resident of the area, Jay was a graduate of Bowerston High School in the class of 1951. He was employed by a number of area businesses over the years, including Goshen Sewer Pipe for 4 years, General Electric for over 33 years and Union Hospital for over 30 years, until his retirement in 1994. Throughout his life, one constant above and beyond his outside employment was the joy that he got from working his family farm. He loved being out on his farm on his John Deere tractor and later in his Gator. Jay was a longtime member of the Northeast Ohio 2-cylinder Club for John Deere fanatics and also had been a member of the Harrison County Coon Hunters and the Tuscarawas County Steam Show, as well as participating in the Algonquin Mill Festival each year and enjoying trips to Stumptown. Jay was a longtime member of Leesville Faith Community Chapel where he enjoyed worship with his family and participating in various church activities. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and sharing the wonders of nature with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was very proud of his family and loved supporting them in all of their sporting events over the years. Jay will be remembered as a generous soul who was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
On Jan. 8, 1955, Jay married the love of his life, Patricia L. (Lorenz) Cole who survives him at their home. He is also survived by a son, Bryan (Dianne) Cole of Sherrodsville; daughters, Rhonda (Frank) Sayre and Kimberly (Dave) Baker of Uhrichsville; grandchildren, Jami (Keith) Cope of Deersville, Keri (Ross) Lindsey of Uhrichsville, Kristen (Zach) Gallion of Gillette, Wyoming and Rachelle Cole of Marietta; step-grandchildren, Cortney, Ryan, Bryanna and Brennan; great-grandchildren, Sydney Sayre, Zoe and Cylis Gallion, Owen and Oliver Lindsey, and Emily Cope; step-great-grandchildren, Caden, Maycee and Makenna; a brother, Neil (Catherine) Cole of Dover; sisters, Betty (Palmer) Love of Uhrichsville and Alma Jean Fulton of Cadiz; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Keith Fulton. Jay will be deeply missed by his loving family who will treasure the many wonderful memories that he made with them.
In keeping with Jay's wishes, a private service is planned without a public visitation. He will be interred in Gnadenhutten's Clay Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions honoring Jay's memory may be made to the , Leesville Faith Community Chapel and Community Hospice.
