Richard (Dick) E. Casteel
age 82, of 1121 West State St., Newcomerstown, Ohio passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Union Hospital in Dover, Ohio with his family at his side following a period of declining health. Dick was born Jan. 21, 1932 to the late Mary (King) Casteel and William Madison Casteel at Bernice, Ohio. He graduated from Newcomerstown High School in 1951. He was inducted into the United States Air Force in 1952. Dick served as a maintenance technician during the Korean Conflict until he left the service in 1961. On Nov. 29, 1952, he married his devoted and loving wife of 61 years, the former Dorothy Carol Mardis. He worked for General Tire as a material handler and also in the shipping department until his retirement of 27 years in 1994. Following retirement, he was Vice President of PWM Inc. for 15 years following 5 years as a delivery route driver for Oak Point Stair Systems. Dick enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling to Myrtle Beach every summer. He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church.
Dick is survived by his wife, Dorothy; son, Richard D. Casteel (wife, Brenda); a daughter, Rhonda J. Popadak (husband, Andrew) all of Newcomerstown; beloved grandchildren, Kristen (Corey) Meeks of Newcomerstown, Morgan (Dustin) Nevers of Marysville, Molly and Carra Popadak of Newcomerstown; his sister Doris (Phil) Smith of Baltic; his brother David (Jeannie) Casteel of Newcomerstown; sisters-in-law, Katie Casteel of Texas, Gladys Casteel and Gerry Casteel of Newcomerstown; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces; and great-nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth Casteel of Texas, Robert Casteel and Clyde Casteel of Newcomerstown; and three infant sisters.
A memorial service will be held with the Newcomerstown Veterans Honor Guard conducting military graveside services on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 1 p.m. at West Lawn Cemetery with Pastor Daniel Eggan officiating.
