age 65, of 234 Penn Avenue, Bowerston, Ohio, died Monday afternoon, April 14, 2014 in the Aultman Hospital at Canton following a long illness. He was born Nov. 22, 1948 in Dennison, Ohio, and was the son of the late Glenn Earl Rhoads and Betty E. Fick Rhoads Echelberry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Carrie Ann; a brother, Mark; a niece, Alyssa Echelberry; his stepfather, Everett Echelberry; and a stepbrother, Alvin Echelberry.
He spent 27 months in Viet Nam and Thailand while serving in the U.S. Army. He also served in the National Guard. Nile was formerly a Tuscarawas County Sheriff's Deputy and retired from the former General Telephone Company (Verizon) after 35 years of service. Nile delighted in nature by hiking, feeding wild animals and birds, and taking care of farm animals when he owned a small farm. He loved being outdoors. His best times in his life were spent with his family. Nile was a very generous person and loved everyone. If he could help someone, he never hesitated.
He is survived by three sons, Nile, Jr. (Chip), Bryan, and Dustin Rhoads; his very dear companion, Crystal Karns and her daughter Sami Mauge, both of Bowerston; four stepbrothers, Harold, Kenny, Leland, and Ronnie; several grandchildren; nieces and nephews; two brothers, Dennis (Debra) Rhoads of Uhrichsville, Ohio and Perry Echelberry and his companion, Carolyn (Cherokee); and two stepsisters, Doris Gump and Betty Echelberry.
Public graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014 in the Longview Cemetery at Bowerston with Mr. Karl Henry officiating. The Carroll County combined units of the V.F.W., D.A.V. and the American Legion will provided military honors. A time of private visitation will be observed by the family in the Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville, who is handling arrangements.
