Age 82, of New Philadelphia, Ohio, died early Wednesday morning, April 16, 2014, in the
Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia following a long illness. She was born Oct. 4, 1931, in Selvin, Ind., and was the daughter of the late Jess and Mary Penley Springston. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Rupert Springston. She was primarily a homemaker, but she was also a licensed beautician. Lois loved attending flea markets. She occupied a booth at the Dover Flea Market for better than 20 years. She had also formerly operated a craft shop on Front Street in New Philadelphia for more than six years.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Eugene Harper, Sr., whom she married Dec. 3, 1953; her four children: Robert E. (Elva) Harper, Jr. of Flatwoods, Ky., Rozaland "Roz" Harper of New Philadelphia, Mrs. Austin J. (Regina) Henry of Harlem Springs, Ohio, and Ricky Harper and Mary Spencer of Circleville, Ohio; four sisters: Mrs. William (Dorothy) Owens of St. George, Utah, Carrie Mickel of Evansville, Ind., Mrs. Roland (Mary) Thompson of Anaheim, Calif., and Janice Springston of Arizona; a number of half-brothers and half-sisters; and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
There are no formal funeral services planned. Following cremation, Lois's ashes will be interred in a private family cemetery in Selvin, Ind. The Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville is handling arrangements.
