Rudolph & JosephineRudolph T. "Rudy" Menapace, Sr.
88, of Dennison, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Canton after a brief illness. Born Aug. 10, 1925 in Uhrichsville, he was a son of the late Carlo and Maria (Anselmi) Menapace. Rudy was a graduate of Dennison High School in the class of 1944 before joining the U.S. Navy and serving his country in the Pacific Theater for two years at the close of World War II.
After the war, Rudy worked for a variety of area businesses including the Dennison Pottery, the Dennison Fire Department, and the former Warner- Swasey Co. before beginning his long career as a security guard for Empire Detroit Reeves. Finally, he was employed by Permaglass Mesh until his retirement. He was a lifelong resident of the Twin City area, with the exception of his military service, and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison throughout his life. Rudy was a devoted member of the Dennison Knights of Columbus, having attained the 3rd degree, and he treasured the many close friendships he had with the members there. He was also a member of the Dennison Eagles and the American Legion. All who knew him loved him and will remember him for his fierce loyalty to Notre Dame sports, and he was a fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns, as well. Above all else, he will be remembered as a devoted family man who loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. They will always have fond memories of the times they shared with him, especially for his faithful support of his daughter, Judy, in her ministry and of his gift for fixing things.
On April 22, 1947, Rudy married the former Josephine Rose Torch with whom he enjoyed nearly 57 years of marriage until her passing on Jan. 5, 2004. They are survived by three children, Judy A. (Roger) Merrick of Uhrichsville, Rosetta J. Menapace of Vermilion, and Carl J. (Deanna) Menapace of Dennison; four grandchildren, Ryan (Christine) Merrick, Troy (Holly) Merrick, Brooke (Tommy) Grafe, and Lindsay (Carmelo) Gaglio; and eight great-grandchildren, Justin, Cade, Emma Rose, Ashley and Zachary Merrick, Lauren and Peyton Grafe, and Milania Gaglio. Rudy is also survived by a brother, Johnny Menapace of Riverside; a sister, Mary (Frank) Maniscalco of Deer Park, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Rose Menapace of Dover; and numerous nieces and nephews who meant the world to him. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a beloved son, Rudy Menapace, Jr., and a brother, Bruno F. Menapace.
Services for Rudy, officiated by Father Anthony Lonzo, will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 21, in Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery near Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday with a Christian Wake Service held at the end of visitation.
