Jay C. Ankrom
86, of Carrollton, formerly of Germano, died May 11, 2014 in his home. He was born Oct. 10, 1927 in Smithfield, Ohio, son of the late Everett and Stella Smith Ankrom. Jay was an active member of Carrollton First Presbyterian Church where he was instrumental in starting the Sharing Bread meal program. He was a member and Elder in the former Germano Presbyterian Church. Jay was a former employee of Diebold in Canton, Good Roads Equipment in Minerva and retired in 1990 from R&N China in Carrollton. Other memberships he held were in Carroll Masonic Lodge #123 and the Scottish Rite Valley of Steubenville.
Jay is survived by his wife of 65 years, the former Nilah Walker, whom he married Dec. 5, 1948; son, Terry (Nancy) Ankrom of Canton; daughter, Karan Ankrom Princic of North Canton; two grandchildren, Zachariah (Krista) Ankrom and Jonah Ankrom; two great granddaughters, Ava and Nilah Ankrom sister, Doris Birney of Jewett; and a brother, Richard Ankrom of Scio. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
A memorial service will be held at Carrollton First Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2014 with Rev. Burt McGown officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services in the church. The family requests donations be made in Jay's memory to Carrollton First Presbyterian Church, 200 North Lisbon St., Carrollton, OH 44615. Dodds Funeral Home of Carrollton was in charge of arrangements.
