Christopher Cottrell
29, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, May 12, 2014 in Akron General Hospital from injuries sustained in a welding accident. A son of Maretta (Peterman) Cottrell and the late James A. Cottrell, Michael was born Aug. 13, 1984 at Dover, Ohio. Michael was a 2003 graduate of Tuscarawas Valley High School and Buckeye Career Center where he earned is welding certification. He was a welder with Sutton Pump & Supply at New Philadelphia where he enjoyed his work and the people he worked with. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting deer and mushrooms. Michael also enjoyed cooking on the grill and spending time on the lake. As much as he enjoyed these activities, it was even more special for him when doing it with his three year old son, Brooks. He cherished the moments spent with Brooks and was extremely proud of him.
He is survived by his mother, Maretta Cottrell of New Philadelphia; his wife, Loretta Bowe; and his son, Brooks James Cottrell, all of New Philadelphia; a sister, Melissa Cottrell of Canton; a brother, Jeremy Cottrell of Massillon; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Debbie Spano; and many aunts, uncle, cousins and dear friends. Michael was preceded in death by his father, James A. Cottrell; his grandparents, Brooks and Bessie Cottrell and Lawrence and Goldie Peterman; and a great-grandmother, Minnie Reichman.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 16, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Michael's life will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover.
