101, of Sugarcreek, died Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Walnut Hills Nursing Home at Walnut Creek following a period of declining health. She was born Oct. 21, 1912 in Aurora, Ohio to the late Ura and Elizabeth (Miller) Hostetler. She was a homemaker, member of the First Mennonite Church at Sugarcreek, former choir member and quilter at the church for many years, former member of the Sugarcreek Lioness Club and had volunteered at the Bloodmobile and Alpine Hills Museum for many years. She was first married on April 1, 1934 to Maurice G. Gerber who died Oct. 26, 1972 and then on Oct. 4, 1975 she married Floyd Hershberger who died Feb. 9, 1997.
She is survived by her children, Marlin E. Gerber (Jackie) of Kalamazoo, Mich., Marjorie Huff of Warsaw and Robert D. (Roxie) Gerber of Sugarcreek; grandchildren, Eileen Gerber Palsson (Bengt) of Sweden, Lin Gerber Nichols (Mark) of Saline, Mich., Samuel Huff (Jenni) of Coshocton, Ohio, Susan Huff Match (Jon) of Warsaw, Ohio, David Gerber of Urbana, Ohio, Molly Gerber of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Amanda Hamilton Gerber (Seth) of New Philadelphia, Ohio and Hilary Hamilton Dunn (Steve) of Sugarcreek, Ohio; great- grandchildren, Ben Nichols, Eliott Nichols, MacKenzie Huff, Max Palsson, Shelby, Morgan and Reegan Gerber and Madison Dunn and sister, Vera Gray of Columbus. In addition to her parents and her husbands, she is preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters Fern, Ann, Ruth, Sarah, Dennis, Roy, Gladys and Cora.
Services will be held on Monday, June 16, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the First Mennonite Church at Sugarcreek with Pastor Jayne Byler officiating. Burial will follow in Union Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 1-3 p.m. at Smith-Varns Funeral Home and Monday from 10-11 at the First Mennonite Church prior to services.
