Sherry Lou Riege
66, of New Philadelphia, passed Saturday, July 19, 2014 in Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia following a courageous effort against cancer. A daughter of the late Willard and Irene (Leatherman) Leggett, Sherry was born April 26, 1948 in Dover, Ohio. She graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1966 and then on Oct. 28, 1967, Sherry married her love, Tim Rieger. Following their marriage, Tim and Sherry moved to Bavaria, Germany, where they resided for 16 months, while Tim was in the service. This venture solidified Sherry's passion for travel and other cultures. Sherry loved people and enjoyed interacting with others especially throughout her career as a server at many local establishments. Most recently Sherry was working as a server and hostess at Maggoo's in New Philadelphia. She also had a passion for and surrounded herself with beautiful things, whether it be the sights from traveling around the world, the flowers, art and statues in her garden, the worldly music she listened to or the extravagant multi-course meals she continuously prepared for family and friends. Sherry was a mother to the many people she touched and she lived for the happiness and adventures of her kids, Ashley and Andrew.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Tim; her children, Ashley Rieger of Portland, Oregon and Andrew Rieger of San Francisco, Calif.; her sister, Sandy Siano of Frenchtown, N.J.; three nephews, Troy, Tadd and Erik Siano of Frenchtown, N.J.; two cousins, Melody (Bob) Liberatore of Williamsburg, Va. and John (Mel) Leatherman of Uhrichsville and two aunts, Kathryn (Ted) Canfield of New Philadelphia and Wilma "Dutch" Stevenson of Dover.
In keeping with Sherry's wishes there will be no calling hours or services and cremation will take place through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A celebration of Sherry's life is planned for Sunday, July 27, 2014, from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. at Maggoo's (1816 E High Ave) in New Philadelphia, where people are encouraged to bring a story to share of Sherry's life over a cup of cappuccino with biscotti and mojitos. Those wishing to do so may send the family a personal condolence and light a candle in remembrance of Sherry by visiting the funeral home website,
The family suggests, in lieu of flowers and for all of their support, contributions be made in Sherry's memory to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
