Gladys Burkhart Obituary

Gladys N. Burkhart
age 83, of New Rumley died Friday, Aug. 31, 2012 in Bowerston Hills Nursing Home. Born Feb. 8, 1929 in Somerdale she was a daughter of the late Frank Zantene and Amber Lechner Zantene. She graduated from Bowerston High School in 1947 and worked at the Scio Pottery for over 40 years. Gladys was an active member of the New Rumley United Methodist Church. In her younger years she and her husband enjoyed taking trips on their motorcycle. But what she loved the most was spending time with her family and her "best friend" ,Emmy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl "Baldy" Burkhart in December of 1980, they were married June 28, 1947; brothers, Art and Pete Zantene; and sisters, Audrey and Theresa Zantene.
Surviving are her daughters, Susan Mitchell of Scio, Rebecca Burkhart of New Rumley and Regina "Jinx" Smith of Canton; grandchildren, Brien Mitchell of Scio and Tech. Sgt. Michael (Jennifer) Mitchell who is stationed in Afghanistan; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Myla Mitchell of San Antonio, Texas and Bailey Mitchell of Scio; a brother, Robert "Duck" Zantene of Scio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in New Rumley United Methodist Church with Rev. David Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Koch Funeral Home, Scio. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Susan Mitchell c/o Citizen Bank, 318 East Main St., Jewett, 43986 to help with the medical expenses.
