Frances M. Garver
90, died at McGregor House in East Cleveland on Nov. 4, 2012. Fran was born in Strasburg, Ohio, daughter of Philip and Lola (Denzer) Garver. The extended family owned and operated Garver Brothers, Inc., "The World's Largest Country Store," where Fran worked as a teenager. She graduated from Strasburg High School, 1939; Otterbein College, 1943; and FPB School of Nursing, Western Reserve University, 1945. Lt. Fran Garver served in the Army Nurse Corps, 1945-1946. Fran worked 1947-1952 at UH, then returned home and worked at Union Hospital in Dover. In the early 1960's, she lived and worked in California, then returned to Cleveland and UH. She retired as a nursing supervisor in 1986. In retirement, Fran was heavily involved in the DAR Shaker Heights chapter and the Little Gardens Club. For many years she and her beloved cats resided in Cleveland Heights before her moving to McGregor House in 2008. Fran was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Mary (the late Dr. John) Clippinger and Helen Haas.
She is survived by a sister, Esther (Marvin) Jeffers of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; several cousins including Barbara Strauss; nieces and nephews, Rev. Arthur Clippinger, John (Pranom) Clippinger, Jeffrey (Renee) Haas, David (Joan) Haas, Steven (Stephanie) Jeffers, Frances (Mark) Lindaman, Barbara (Niles) Gaston; former brother-in-law, Jack (Margaret) Haas; as well as her good friend and fellow nursing supervisor, Laura Hamilton.
Burial with full military honors will take place at OHIO WESTERN RESERVE NATIONAL CEMETERY, Rittman, on Friday, NOV. 16, at 12:30. PLEASE GATHER AT THE INFORMATION BOOTH BY 12:15. Family and friends are invited to join at the nearby Rawiga Golf and Country Club afterward for a short memorial service and luncheon.
