97, formerly of New Castle, passed away at Walnut Hills Retirement Home in Walnut Creek, Ohio, on Feb. 4, 2013. Born in McKeesport, Pa., on Oct. 31, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Edward C. King and Josephine J. King.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry L. Lockley; and her great-granddaughter, Mandy Sommers. She is survived by her sister, Ethel L. Miller, formerly of Bethel Park, Pa.; her daughter, Patricia Ann and Leroy J. Shaw of Sugarcreek, Ohio; and son Harry K. and Agnes H. Lockley of Carlisle, Pa.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandson. She was a graduate of Butler PA High School (1934) and Slippery Rock University (1936 and 1957). She taught school from 1936 to 1976. She was a 5th grade teacher at Croton Avenue School in New Castle from 1957 until 1967 and Kindergarten and Pre-School at First United Methodist Church from 1969 until 1976. She was a member of The First United Methodist Church, Junior Reading Circle, charter member of the Paws & Taws Square-dancing Club, Wimodausis, Retired Teachers of New Castle, PEA, Prime Timers, Jameson Junior Guild, and taught line dancing at the McGill Center from 1991 until 2000.
Calling hours are from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday immediately following visitation. The Rev. Dennis Bupp will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Walnut Hills Nursing Home, 4748 Olde Pump St., P. O. Box 127, Walnut Creek, OH 44687.
