Raymond P. "R.P." Hunt
90, of Dennison, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2013 at Beacon Pointe Rehabilitation Center in Uhrichsville after a period of declining health. Born May 21, 1922 in Uhrichsville, he was a son of the late Clarence Magee and Mary Viola (Cecil) Hunt. A resident of the Twin City area throughout his life, Raymond was a graduate of Dennison High School in the class of 1941 and a longtime member of Park Christian Church in Dennison. He began his career with the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1942 and, with the exception of his years of military service, continued in railroading throughout his life until his retirement from Conrail in 1979. Beginning in January of 1943, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and earning four Bronze Stars before his honorable discharge in late 1945. Raymond was a member of the United Transportation Union and the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees, and was also a former longtime member of the Uhrichsville Moose and the Dennison Eagles. He was a devoted fan of the Cleveland Indians and an avid bowler who was inducted into the Alpa Lanes Hall of Fame. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and refinishing furniture.
On May 10, 1942, he married the former Mary Kathryn Roseberry with whom he enjoyed over 70 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Susan K. (Richard P.) Timko of Dennison and Pastor Polly A. (James L.) Wolfe of Jewett; grandchildren, Tiffany (Chris) Craver, Amanda (Jim) Edmondson, Matthew Timko, Jennifer Ann Mullins, Brian Hunt and Debbie (Rodney) Bowe; 12 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Eugene (Marian) Hunt of Cookeville, Tenn., Richard A. (Maryann) Hunt of Worthington, Ohio and James E. Hunt of San Diego, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Mary E. Hunt of Bowerston and June Fugera of Uniontown, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Frank Roseberry of Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David P. Hunt; grandchildren, David P. Timko, Derek A. Mullins and Vickie L. Barnabi; and a brother, Cecil Glenn Hunt.
Services for R.P. officiated by Pastor Scot Caley will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville's Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Park Christian Church, in lieu of flowers.
