Walter Dahler
87, of Dover, died Friday Sept. 27, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. in the Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia after a brief illness. Born March 14, 1926 in Fiat, Ohio he was a son of the late Carl and Margaret (Stress) Dahler. Walter retired from the Belden Brick Company at Sugarcreek after 59 years of employment. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II serving in the South Pacific Theatre and was at the invasion of Iwo Jima. He was a lifetime member of the New Philadelphia VFW and was a member of the Dover Eagles and the Baltic American Legion.
His wife the former Norma J. Limbacher, whom he married April 30, 1955, preceded him in death on Dec. 2, 2011. He is survived by brothers and sisters in law Robert and Nancy Limbacher of Dover, Art and Marge Limbacher of Baltic, Chester Limbacher of Dover and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by two sisters Naomi and Viola and two brothers Charles and Fritz.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday Oct. 1, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the Smith-Varns Funeral Home at 1018 W. Main St. Sugarcreek. Pastor Darcy Miller will officiate and burial will follow in West Lawn Cemetery at Baltic where military honors will be conducted. Friends may call Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A luncheon will be held following services in the Smith Family Center at Sugarcreek. For those unable to attend please visit the funeral home's web site to share a memory and sign the guest register.
