Stein, Louis P.
Louis P. Stein, 97, Watseka, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2016, at the Gilman Nursing Home.  He was born June 24, 1918, in Ashkum, IL, the son of Carl and Maggie Stein.  On January 19, 1946, Louis married the love of his life, Marie Anderson.  She passed away on June 9, 1993.  He was also preceded in death by his parents and all five siblings:  Marie, Heine, Marguerite, Annie and Harold.   Mr. Stein is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda (John) Gaines of Watseka; one grandson, Ryan (Megan) Gaines of Minneapolis, MN; and three great-grandchildren, twins Grady and Oliver, and Molly.  Ryan and Louis mutually adored one another.    Louis had a true passion for cars, and spent nearly 60 years as an auto mechanic, before finally retiring at the spry age of 77.   He took a great deal of pride in his cars, and polished them to the point they gleamed.   He also possessed a wonderful sense of humor, demonstrated by his prolific joke-telling.  When asked about his biggest fear of reaching the age of 100, he often responded, "I will as long as I don't get caught by a jealous husband!"   Louis enjoyed the simple things in life, such as having coffee with countless friends, eating fried chicken from KFC and watching the Grand Ole Opry on television.    He lived a grand life.  While he will be sorely missed by family and friends, he will be reunited with the twinkle in his eyes, Marie, who passed 23 years ago.   Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm on Monday, June 27, 2016, at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka.  Funeral services will take place at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at Baier Funeral Home.
