Elmer L. Burgett, 81, of Goodwine passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at his home.
Elmer was born January 4, 1932 in Woodland, the son of Walter and Helen Walker Burgett and they preceded him in death. He married Helen Drayer on November 18, 1956 in Rankin and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Randy (Peg) Burgett of Goodwine and Rod (Vicki) Burgett of rural Wellington; Chad (Ashleigh) Verkler of Cissna Park who was like a son to Elmer; four grandchildren, Donald Burgett, Natasha Janssen, Daniel Burgett and Sawyer Burgett; and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Burgett served in the Army
during the European Occupation. He was a member of the Milford United Methodist Church, Cissna Park American Legion Post #527 and the Bearcat Booster Club for many years. Elmer worked at the Goodwine Co-op Elevator and enjoyed fishing, coon hunting and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He loved the St. Louis Cardinals.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2013 at the Milford United Methodist Church. Rev. Gene Turner will officiate. Burial will be in Amity Cemetery in Goodwine with military graveside rites by the Cissna Park American Legion Post #527.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Knapp Funeral Home in Cissna Park and 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
