Francis G. Marshall

Francis G. Marshall, 92, of Sheldon passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at the Iroquois Resident Home in Watseka.
Francis was born November 15, 1920 in Crown Point, IN, the son of Roy A. and LaVerna Dibble Marshall.  He married Eleanor Haynes on May 3, 1947 in Henderson, KY and she survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Terry (Bill) Mabbitt of Sheldon and Stella Cyr of Woodland; three sons, Michael Marshall, Maynard Marshall and Milo Marshall all of Sheldon; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Myrl "Huck" (Joan) Marshall of Watseka and Shirley McKimson of Washington, IL; one sister, Bernice Clutteur of Watseka; four grandchildren, Amy (Joe) McCabe, Cathy McNally and Abraham (Brittany) Cyr all of Sheldon and Lance Minard of Watseka; nine great-grandchildren, Thomas, Max, Jack and Luke McCabe; Erin, Shayne and Kyle McNally; and Abby Cyr all of Sheldon and Ali Minard of Watseka; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Everett Lorraine Marshall; and one sister, Ogreta Marshall.
Mr. Marshall served in the Army during WWII in the 11th Armored Division, participated in the European Theatre and Battle of The Bulge, was the lone survivor in one battle in Belgium and was a Purple Heart recepient. He was a 50 year member of the Sheldon American Legion. Francis hauled livestock until 1968 and then worked for Interstate Trucking and then Remington Freightlines.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Knapp Funeral Home in Sheldon. Rev. Tom McCann will officiate. Burial will be in the Sheldon Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Sheldon American Legion, Watseka American Legion Post #23 and Iroquois County VFW Post #7450.
Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2013 at Knapp Funeral Home in Sheldon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sheldon EMTs or Sheldon American Legion.
