Leland "Lee" Milk, age 75, formerly of Kankakee, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2014 in Marco Island, FL. Lee was born on January 20, 1939 to Ross and Inez (Pierce) Milk in Kankakee. He was educated at Olivet Nazarene University and University of Illinois where he obtained a Master's Degree in Civil Engineering. He married the former Carol LeBeau on October 8, 1960 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Kankakee. He worked for the City of Kankakee, Kankakee County and private consulting firms throughout his career.
In retirement, Lee owned and operated several commercial businesses. He then went into farming which was a passion he greatly enjoyed. He also participated in protecting our environment by residing on wildlife and conservation preserve boards. He held a seat on the Kankakee County Forest Preserve Commission where he secured hundreds of woodlands for future preservation.
Lee was a talented musician and played the piano, organ and sang as lead singer in his bands. He managed the band for several years and played for numerous weddings, special events and nightclubs. No matter where he was, if there was a piano in the room, he would play and sing for everyone's enjoyment.
Lee also had a green thumb and maintained a beautiful garden and fruit orchard at his residence on Hilltop Acres. He originally built the home on three acres in 1953 with his father. Throughout his life, the property remained a beautiful and peaceful haven for family and friends.
Lee is survived by his loving wife, Carol; one son, Bryan (Wendy) Milk of Naples; one daughter, Brenda Milk of Kankakee; five grandchildren, Matthew, Marc, Tiffany, Derrick and Marissa; one sister, Lynda Petit of Tampa, FL and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Leona.
A gathering time for friends and family will be held on Friday, April 4, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until the time of Lee's funeral service at 8:00 p.m. at Schreffler Life Story Funeral Home's Kankakee Chapel. Cremation rites have been accorded.
