Norman Dean Hungness, 84, of Sheldon, Illinois passed away on October 17, 2013.

He was born on February 26, 1929 in Williston, North Dakota to Norman O. and Ramona M. (Anderson) Hungness. Dean graduated from Sheldon High School in 1947 and was a graduate of Knox College, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He attended the University of Illinois College of Medicine where he received his M.D. degree in 1956. Dean served his internship at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. Upon completing his internship, he enlisted as a captain in the U.S. Air Force where he was a flight surgeon.
Dr. Hungness joined his father's medical practice in 1959, and served the Sheldon area as a family physician at the Hungness Clinic for over 40 years.
He was dedicated to his family and the provision of quality health care to his many patients. A strong work ethic allowed him to take advantage of his enjoyment for golf and flying.
Dean was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Marjorie L. (Peterson) Hungness.
He is survived by his children Kimberly (Kent) Damisch, Indianapolis, IN; Kathy (Richard) Foster, Indianapolis, IN; Steven (Celeste) Hungness, Coral Springs, FL and Karen (Blake) Bahler, Buckley, IL; grandchildren Brian and Brett Damisch; Natalie, Abby and Hannah Foster; Curtis, Tyler and Austin Hungness; Sam, Ben and Eve Bahler.
A private funeral service will be held for the immediate family at Knapp Funeral Home in Sheldon. Interment will be at the Sheldon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Iroquois Memorial Hospital & Resident Home, 200 East Fairman Avenue, Watseka, IL 60970.
