LITTLE FALLS - Alvaro Peruzzi, 86, of 79 Church Street, Little Falls, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2016, at his home, with his beloved family by his side.
Alvaro was born on July 27, 1929, in Supino, Italy, the son of the late Ferdinando and Virginia (Tomei) Peruzzi. He was educated in his native schools, moving to Rome, Italy, at an early age. Most of the years he lived in Italy were spent in Rome, with the exception of summers, which were spent in Supino with relatives. In 1948, Alvaro, along with his sister, Silvana, traveled across the seas from Italy to this country to start a new life.
Alvaro was a Veteran of the Korean War. He entered the US Army on February 13, 1952, serving our country until January 5, 1955, when he was honorably discharged as a Corporal.
On September 16, 1956, he was united in marriage to the former Rosemarie Zuccaro at St. Joseph's Church, Little Falls. Alvaro and Rosemarie owned and operated Al's Shoe Service in Little Falls for 48 years, retiring in 1997. They were blessed with 51 years of marriage before Mrs. Peruzzi predeceased him on June 19, 2008.
Alvaro was a member of the Holy Family Parish Church, Little Falls, as well as a member of the DeCarlo-Staffo Post #8, ITAM, Little Falls. He was an avid golfer for over 30 years, playing in numerous leagues during which he proudly achieved 2 holes-in-one. Alvaro not only loved playing the game of golf, but also teaching his children and grandchildren how to play. Alvaro loved nature, animals of all kinds, and spending time outside. Some of his other passions in life were gardening and carpentry, but most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a loving, caring man who was dedicated to his family and will be greatly missed.
