Laurence McGuire Obituary

McGuire, Laurence WARRENTON, Mo. Mr. Laurence McGuire, from Warrenton, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at the age of 87 years. Mr. McGuire was born on October 15, 1926 in Buffalo, to Francis C. and Julia T. (nee: Harrington) McGuire. Mr. McGuire served his country in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He served as a private first class, Company B 519th, Military Police stationed in Okinawa and Yokahama. Upon returning from the war, he met the love of his life, Eileen Mahoney. They were married on June 5, 1954 in Syracuse, N.Y. Together they had four children, Donald, James, David and Kathleen. They spent 59 years together. McGuire worked as a finance and leasing executive for over 40 years for General Motors, HBE Lease and Strick Corporation. He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Warrenton. He was also a member of the St. Louis Traffic Club, the Strick Bowling Team, the Mobile Home Owners Rights Association and also volunteered at "Goodies-4-U" in Warrenton in support of deployed US military. He worked tirelessly to support the successful enactment of new Missouri laws protecting the disadvantaged from unfair eviction and discrimination. McGuire is survived by his loving wife, Eileen; three sons, Donald McGuire of Eldorado, Kan., James McGuire of Warrenton, Mo., David McGuire of Crestwood Mo.; and one daughter, Kathleen Goyette of Yakima, Wash.; nine grandchildren and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial Mass will be held on Friday, November 22, 2013 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, Mo. Memorial donations may be made to Operation USO Care Package c/o Martin Funeral Home, 510 East Main St., Warrenton, MO 63383. I am sorry it took almost nine years to find that one of the finest bosses I ever worked with passed away. He hired me in 1977 with Strick Corporation that gave me my professional start in the business world. I will always remember Larry as a true professional.
