Dominick Ascenzi

Ascenzi, Dominick WATERFORD Dominick J. Ascenzi, 93, of 3rd St. died peacefully Friday, December 20, 2013 at Evergreen Commons. Born and educated in Waterford, he was the son of the late Guiseppe and Antoinette Bacchiocchi Ascenzi. Dominick was a lifelong Waterford resident and was very active in his community. He belonged to the Waterford Knights of Columbus Council 237, Waterford VFW Memorial Post 5800, Kavanaugh Hook & Ladder Co. and the Waterford Senior Citizens. He also was communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, enjoyed bowling in the former Camp's Bowling League and volunteered at the Waterford Visitor's Center. Dominick was a veteran of the US Army, having served in the European Theatre during World War II. He worked at the NYS Audit and Comptroller Dept. in Albany from 1954 until his retirement in 1977. He had also worked at the former Cerroni's Grocery & Pizzeria in Waterford. Dominick was the beloved uncle of Dr. Joseph M. Ascenzi of Calif., Dr. Christopher J. Japour and Thomas R. Japour (Sandie Sanderson) both of Waterford, Michael A. Ascenzi of Fla. and Anne "Nina" Ascenzi of Slingerlands. He was the brother of the late Mario "Sam" Ascenzi, Nazarino Ascenzi and Mary Japour. He is also survived by four grandnieces and nephews, two great-grandnieces and nephews as well as several cousins. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford, and at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Waterford. Interment will follow with military honors in St. Mary's Cemetery, Waterford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service from 9 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary of the Assumption Restoration Fund, in care of the funeral home office.
