Donald Joseph Guiry

Guiry, Donald Joseph ALBANY Donald Joseph Guiry, 85, passed away on November 11, 2013. Don was born in Albany, the son of the late Patrick and Mary Guiry. He was a 1946 graduate of Christian Brothers Academy where he played football and ran track. He held the 440 record for a time. He served in the United States Navy after graduation. Don enjoyed a 26 year career in the N.Y. State Police and retired as Major. He also served 10 years as a Indian River County Sheriff's deputy in Florida. He is survived by two sons, Michael and his wife Jean Guiry of Florida and Timothy Guiry of Mass. He has four grandchildren, Dawn Newcomb, Michael Guiry, Matthew Guiry and Melissa Guiry; eight great-grandchildren also survive him. He was predeceased by his brothers, Champ Guiry and Jim Guiry; and his sister, Mary (Toby) Guiry. There will be no calling hours. A private graveside service will be held on Friday, November 15, 2013 in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer Center and Albany Medical Hospital, PO Box 8928, Albany, NY 12208. Arrangements are by the Northville Funeral Service.
