Donald L. Carnegie

Carnegie, Donald L. LATHAM Donald Lee Carnegie, 73, died peacefully on Friday, March 14, 2014 at his home in Latham. Born in Joliet, Ill., on July 10, 1940, he was the son of the late William and Frances Marn Carnegie. He moved with his family to Cohoes and graduated from Cohoes High School. He later attended the University of Maine. He was a proud member of the U.S. Army Reserves 364th General Hospital based in Albany for more than 30 years. Don was employed by Grand Union supermarkets as a truck driver for 25 years and by Albany Transport at the Port of Albany as a dispatcher for more than 15 years before retiring. Don was very active with the Verdoy Volunteer Fire Department for more than 30 years, serving as a firefighter and most recently with the fire police. He also was a paramedic with the former North Colonie Volunteer Ambulance Squad. While his son Mark was growing up, he was a Boy Scout leader with Troop 279 in Latham. He was the husband of the late Mary T. Leahy Carnegie, who died January 13, 2006; beloved father of Mark J. (Colleen) Carnegie of Menands and Shelly A. (Mark) Wykes of Guilderland; proud grandfather of Sara (Jonathan) Slocum of Alexandria, Va., Jason Carnegie of Menands and Toby Wykes of Guilderland; great-grandfather of Spencer Slocum; and dear companion of Joan Edwards of Latham. He was predeceased by his older brothers, William, Robert and Tom Carnegie. Relatives and friends may call at the Bowen & Parker Bros.
