Elisabeth Hollister Sims

Sims, Elisabeth Hollister ALBANY Elisabeth Hollister "Holly" Sims, daughter of Elisabeth Sturdivant Sims of Asheville, N.C., and the late Watson Sims died May 5, 2013 in Albany. She is survived by her brother, Winfield Word-Sims, M.D. of Asheville and his wife, Margaret Word-Sims, M.D.; as well as nephews, Ben and Brian Word-Sims. Holly taught at the Rockefeller School of Public Policy. Holly was a graduate with honors of the University of Wisconsin and earned a master's degree there in Asian atudies. She received her doctorate in political science from the University of California at Berkeley, with a highly regarded thesis on water policy in India and Pakistan. She received three Fulbright awards, and went on to teach in Bulgaria, Somalia and elsewhere, publishing articles on a wide range of subjects. She was fluent in Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi and French. Holly was an idealist, passionate about environmental policy issues. Sharing that excitement and concern with her students was her great joy.
