Gertrude (Moraway) Penk

Penk, Gertrude (Moraway) GROTON, Conn. Gertrude Moraway Penk, formerly of Waldenmaier Road in Feura Bush, N.Y., passed away on November 7, 2012 in Groton, where she has resided at Groton Regency Health Care Center for several years. She previously was a resident at Stoni-ngton Arms in Pawcatuck, Conn. for a number of years. Gertrude was born April 12, 1912, daughter of Max and Caroline Moraway of Colonie, N.Y. She is predeceased by her brother, Frank Moraway and sister, Dorothy Gallon. She married Paul Otto Penk on May 16, 1936 who passed away in 1995. Gertrude is survived by daughter, Gayle Penk Gwiazda and her husband Paul B. Gwiazda of Bridgton, Maine; sons, Paul K. Penk and Benjamin N. Penk of Santa Maria, Calif.; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Gertrude attended Albany High School, and graduated from Albany Business College in March 1929 with highest honors. She was employed at Metropolitan Life Insurance in Albany, N.Y. for seven years, and in 1938 moved with her husband and family to a farm in Feura Bush, N.Y. She was a longtime member of the Unionville Reformed Church in Unionville, N.Y. Gertrude enjoyed baking, cooking, crocheting, traveling, gardening, bingo, crossword puzzles and Scrabble and just interacting with people. She was a loving wife and mother, and was very much loved by those whose lives she touched over the years. Her pleasant personality and infectious smile will be sadly missed by all. A memorial service and interment will take place at Bethlehem Cemetery on Kenwood Ave. in Delmar at a future date.
