Sweet, Hoyt C. BALLSTON LAKE Hoyt C. Sweet, 87, of North Center Lane, peacefully entered into eternal life at his residence on Saturday, April 6, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Venita Breton Sweet of Ballston Lake for over 66 years. Born in Bar Harbor, Maine, he was the son of the late Henry and Lena Hoyt and was a graduate of Bar Harbor High School and the University of Maine, Orono where he earned his B.S. in agronomy. He was a World War II
Air Force veteran, having been discharged as a sergeant and was bestowed the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Victory and Good Conduct Medals. He retired in 1981 after 26 years of dedicated service to International Harvester in Menands, where he had been employed as a regional parts manager. Following retirement, he was a sales representative at KC Canary in Clifton Park. Hoyt enjoyed spending time with family, playing bridge with friends, gardening, cooking and teaching everyone how to eat a lobster! He loved to work with his hands and could fix anything. Beloved husband of Venita; devoted father of Nancy (Dave) Vanderslice of Stuart, Fla., Gregory (Claudia) Sweet of Pittsford, N.Y., Andrew (Karen) Sweet of Sterling, Va., Brenda Catalano of Rhinebeck, N.Y., Judy (David) Pawlick of Wilton, N.Y. and the late Jeffrey Sweet. He was brother of John Sweet of Northeast Harbor, Maine, William Sweet of Bar Harbor, Maine and the late Isabelle Dresser, Jerome and Marcus Sweet. He was also the cherished "Grampy" of 14 and "Great Grampy" of five. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9 in Clifton Park. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment with military honors will be held in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. Those desiring, may make memorial contributions in his name to Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
