Krochina, John M. BALLSTON LAKE John M. Krochina, 83, passed away peacefully at his home, on Wednesday, January 16, 2013. Born in Amsterdam, he was the son of the late Michael and Bessie Krochina of Amster-dam. John was a graduate of Wilbur Lynch High School in Amsterdam, and then Ithaca College and did his masters degree at Jacksonville State University in Alabama, where he was inducted into the College's Football Hall of Fame. In 1948, John joined the New York Yankees minor league team the Newark Yankees. He was a US Army
1st Lt., serving with the 24th Infantry Div. during the Korean War
. John was a Physical Education teacher/coach for the Lansing-burgh School District for many years, and also enjoyed being a bus driver for Greyhound for a number of years. He coached, refereed soccer and basketball and umpired in the Tri-City area, and was a great all around athlete all his life. John enjoyed golf with the Dick Lee Memorial League in Clifton Park and poker nites at "Ernies" every Tuesday for years. Survivors include his wife, Kathleen (Wilson) Krochina of Ballston Lake; his children, Kyle (Karen) of Maryland, Karen (James) McCrae of Virginia and Chris (Lorraine) Krochina of Stillwater. Also stepchildren, Elizabeth Dale of Ballston Lake and Blaine Serven of Clifton Park. Grandchildren include, Zachary, Jake, Madison, Kathryn (Dan), Blaine, Jr., Andrew, Molly and Anthony; along with great- grandchildren, Natalia and Daniel Negron, Jr. Also survived by nephews, Pat (Janet) of Alaska and Michael (Patty) of Hawaii and his niece, Susan (Ed) Burdick of Johnsonville, N.Y. In addition to his parents John was predeceased by siblings, Joseph and Alma Krochina. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Valley Falls United Methodist Church, in Valley Falls. Interment with military honors at the Saratoga National Cemetery, following the church service at 12:30 p.m. Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So.
