Juanita Garry

Garry, Juanita LAKE GEORGE Juanita M. Brooks Garry of Lake George died peacefully Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Glens Falls Hospital with family at her bedside. Born in Vernon, Texas July 27, 1925, Juanita was the daughter of the late Henry Norvel Brooks and Hattie Mae Anderson Brooks. Juanita was Valedictorian of the 1943 graduating class of Vernon High School where she was in the marching band and played tennis. It was in Vernon that she met her future husband, M. Sgt. Joseph A. Garry Jr. when he was stationed at Shepard Field in Texas. After World War II they moved to Albany, N.Y. and to Lake George where they operated the Garry family business, Roaring Brook Ranch. Aside from her love for her family, Juanita's interests included tennis, oil painting, daily crossword puzzles, and football with a capital "F", especially her Dallas Cowboys. We bet that most of you don't know that she played a mean clarinet, piano and lap steel guitar! Juanita was a devoted fan of Willie Nelson and loved to kick up her heels to the music of her long-time friends, the Stony Creek Band. She was a lady of beauty and grace, our Yellow Rose of Texas. Juanita was predeceased by her husband, Joe, in 2010 and by her sister, Hattie Duff of California. She was beloved mother to Juanita (David) Maswick, Joanne (Guido) Ballini and Jeffrey (Renee Reardon) Garry. Juanita was beloved "Nah" to grandchildren Michael (Regina Smith) Jacobs, Alison Jacobs, Andrea (Craig) Jacobs Merlow, Christopher (Cathy) Ballini, Anita Ballini, Marc Ballini, Alexandra Garry, Gavin Garry and cherished great-grandmother to Ruby and Joe Jacobs. Juanita is also survived by her dear brother, James Henry Brooks of Quanah, Texas and sister, Norveline Donaghey of California. She leaves special cousin, George W. (Jill) Greene and children, Joy and Maggie and dear friend, Edward Frazier, of Austin, Texas. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, grandnephews and grandnieces also survive. Juanita's family wishes to express their gratitude and thanks to all of the staff at Hudson Headwaters Health Network and Glens Falls Hospital, Towers 5, 6 and 3 for their exceptionally kind and loving care during Juanita's illness. You can take the girl out of Texas but you can't take Texas out of the girl! Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2013 at the Regan and Denny Funeral Home, Quaker Road, Queensbury.
