Mary Ruth Baker

Baker, Mary Ruth MECHANICVILLE Mrs. Mary Ruth Baker, 100, former resident of Ellsworth Ave., died Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Wesley Health Care Center, Saratoga Springs. Born in Easton, N.Y. on July 3, 1912, the youngest daughter of the late Charles and Lilla Crandall Fletcher, her siblings, Lucy Fletcher Scidmore, Sarah Fletcher Burton, and Carl L. Fletcher, all predeceased her. Ruth was a 1930 graduate of Mechanicville High School. Following graduation from Albany Business College, she worked as an executive secretary for the New York State Dept. of Labor in Albany for 14 years, commuting by train each day. Ruth married Orville Baker of Mechanicville in 1941; sadly, he died in 1985. Ruth enjoyed knitting, sewing, and cooking, and treasured the company of her family and many friends. A faithful member of Mechanicville's United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the Women's Club, Ruth especially enjoyed volunteering for the semi-annual rummage sales. She was also a member of the Mechanicville Senior Citizens. She had a young at heart spirit, was an independent thinker, and could be seen walking about her neighborhood on a daily basis until she relocated to the Wesley Community at age 97. Survivors include her nephew, Willard J. Fletcher of So. Glens Falls; great-nieces, Shay (James) Robertson of Middlebrook, Va., and Dawn Burton of Ballston Spa, N.Y.; and great-nephews, Gary Burton of Saratoga Springs, N.Y. and Daniel (Denise) Fletcher of Galesburg, Mich. and their children, Evan and Alana. Funeral services have been set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at the United Methodist Church, 7 No. Main St., Mechanicville, with burial in Hudson View Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Mechanicville United Methodist Church, 7 North Main St., Mechanicville, NY 12118, in loving memory of M. Ruth Baker.
