Richard B. Theophel

Theophel, Richard B. Sr. MIMS, Fla. Richard B. Theophel Sr., passed away peacefully on March 30, 2013 at his home in Mims. Born and raised in Watervliet, Richard served honorably overseas during the Korean Conflict. He was a proud and active veteran and was a life member and past commander of VFW 729. He enjoyed traveling and followed sports very closely. He participated in many sporting activities throughout his own life. Richard retired from the New York State Department of Transportation with well over 40 years of service. He is survived by his life companion, Karen Oddy; his children, Mary Lois Theophel of Las Vegas, Richard (Collette) Theophel of Clifton Park, Mark Theophel of North Greenbush, Michael Theophel of Clifton Park, and Kathleen (Chris) Gardiner of Clifton Park; his grandchildren, Michael, Nicholas and Joseph Otonowski, Collette, Richard and Bryan Theophel, Mark and Christine Theophel, Christopher, Michael and Kate Gardiner. He was the great-grandfather of Lex and Mackenzie Otonowski and Morgan (Theophel) Fitzgerald. He is also survived by his two nieces, Cathy Parillo of Ballston Spa and Mary Ann Jennings of Albany, as well as his former wife and caring friend, Lois Kennedy of Clifton Park. Richard was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Costell of Albany. A ceremony and interment will be held in the Gerald Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at the family's convenience.
