Richard J. Sunkes Sr.

Sunkes, Richard J. Sr. WATERFORD Richard J. Sunkes Sr., 92, of Saratoga Ave. died peacefully Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Samaritan Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Cohoes, he was the son of the late Daniel and Catherine Sunkes. Richard had been employed for 30 years by the former Frank J. Ryan and Sons in Troy and retired in 1982. He was a member of Painters Local 201. He was a veteran of the US Army and served during World War II in the Aleutian Islands and was a member of Lt. Fred H. Clark Post 91 of the American Legion in Mechanicville. Richard was a former member of thee Loyal Order of Moose in Cohoes, the Cohoes Rod and Gun Club and Kavanaugh Hook and Ladder Co. in Waterford. He also was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Waterford. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Rita E. Cremisio Sunkes; his children, Richard J. Sunkes Jr. (Bernice) of Valatie, Terry A. Sunkes (Joyce), David M. Sunkes (Lora) of Waterford and Nancy J. Huntley (Lance) of Colonie. He is the brother of Thomas Sunkes of East Greenbush, the late Clarence, Jack, Neil and Leonard Sunkes. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family from the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford. Entombment will be in Memory's Garden, Colonie.
