Royal A. Cutler Jr.

Cutler, Royal A. Jr. DELMAR Dr. Royal A. Cutler Jr., 94, of Delmar, passed peacefully into the loving presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 15, 2013. Born in Spokane, Wash., he attended Whitman College in Walla Walla and moved to Troy to attend Rensselaer Polyt-echnic Institute (M.S, Ph.D.). Dr. Cutler was employed for 39 years at Sterling-Winthrop Research Institute in Rensselaer. As a research chemist, he authored a number of scientific journal articles and registered 35 patents. For 26 years, he lived in West Sand Lake, where he raised his family in the dream house he built for them. During this season of his life, he served on the Averill Park School Board for 11 years, including three as president. When he was in his 50s, Dr. Cutler realized that despite a full life, something was missing. That "something" was a personal relationship with Jesus Christ which transformed his life, as well as that of his family. During this time, he served Emmanuel Christian Church in a number of leadership roles. He was also an advisor to Albany Women's Aglow and assisted his wife in writing her inspirational autobiography. Most recently, he was actively involved in Delmar Full Gospel Church. Royal will be remembered as a cheerful, friendly man who loved the Lord, his family, and all people. With a servant's heart, he enjoyed opportunities to help others, whether with carpentry skills, offering produce from his garden, or listening to and praying for others. He touched numerous lives during his life journey and will be missed by many. He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Mary ("Davey") Davis Cutler; children, Laurie (Tom) Knecht, Royal (Mary) Cutler III, Karen (Rick) Peterson; five beloved grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; siblings, Virginia Massey, Maynard Cutler, and Byrdella Eisenbarth. He is predeceased by parents, Phoebe Curryer Cutler and Royal A. Cutler Sr., and sisters, Alice Cutler and Lucile Taylor. A celebration service will be held on Saturday, January 19 at 10 a.m. at Delmar Full Gospel Church in Delmar. Friends are invited to call on the family at the church, starting at 8:30 a.m. Interment will take place at Bethlehem Cemetery in Delmar. Those who wish may send memorial contributions to Delmar Full Gospel Church, 282 Elsmere Ave., Delmar, NY 12054. Online condolences may be offered at danielkeenanfuneralhome.com
