Sheila A. Hughes

Hughes, Sheila A. REXFORD Mrs. Sheila A. Hughes, 77, of Coburg Village, and Syracuse area resident for most of her life, died unexpectedly, Sunday, October 27, 2013 at her new two month residence, of natural causes. She lived on Altair Course in Liverpool for many years. Born in Syracuse, December 25, 1935, daughter of the late Charles and Jane Harper and widow of Robert Hughes, who died in 1981, Sheila was a graduate of Syracuse University. Sheila proudly served as an elementary school teacher for the Liverpool School District for 31 years before her retirement. A member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church of Liverpool and an Altar Guild member, Sheila was a NY Yankee fan, and an avid Syracuse University Orange fan. She followed and supported all S.U.'s sports teams and it's been said that she "bled Orange." She loved her family and enjoyed their company, and her canine friends, Lexi and Linus were her very special friends. Survivors include her son, Robert and Elizabeth Hughes of Mechanicville; daughter, Marcia and Kevin Winn of Connecticut; grandchildren, Chloe, Olivia, Lily, Emma, Miranda, Bella and Brenda; a brother, Charles and Vilma Harper of Pennsylvania, and her close friend and a person she talked to on a daily basis, Nancy Powers of Atlanta. Sheila's family invites all to a memorial service to be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2013 at St. Matthew's Church, 904 Vine St., Liverpool. Interment in Onondaga Valley Cemetery.
