Prefore, Thomas H. TROY Thomas H. Prefore, 90, (Granpa Tom) says goodbye to all his friends and relatives as he goes to reunite with his family and friends in the glory of the kingdom of heaven. He struggled this past year with his illness. Although he could not do the tasks he used to do, he always asked what he could do to help. He passed away with his son by his side on November 3, 2012 He was born and educated in Troy and was the son of the late Louis and Margaret Harkin Prefore. His wife of 64 years, Myrtle, whom he married in England during World War II
, predeceased him. Tom moved to Florida in 2009. He was a big western movie fan, especially a John Wayne enthusiast, and he followed his beloved Tigers, Yankees, and New York Giants. He enjoyed playing pinochle and poker, which is a Prefore tradition. Tom's career spanned many decades and ranged from furrier to to crane operator to tile setter to bakery cleaner where he retired from Freihofer's in Albany. In between jobs, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 861st Aviation Engineers Battalion in the European Theater. Survivors include his son, Paul (Sharon) Prefore of Florida; his daughter, Dawn Germano of East Greenbush; three grandsons, Anthony (Deanna) Germano, P. Rodney and Marc A. Prefore; two great-granchildren, Samantha "Little One" Germano and Alex Ryan. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, a sister-in-law, and extended family, Caroline and Becky Grasso. Tom was the brother of the late Charles Todd Prefore, Margaret "Sissy" Harris, Mary Bell, Ann "Nanny" Jones. Leo "Bucky" Prefore, Isabelle Bessmer, Ellen Lanzetta, Paul Prefore and Joanie "Redhead" O'Brien. A calling hour will be held today, Monday, November 12, 2012 from 9 to 10 a.m. at the John H. Clinton Funeral Home, Washington Park and Third Street, Troy, followed by a graveside service at St. Jean the Baptiste Cemetery, Troy.
