Sister Vincent Marie O'Hagan CSJ

O'Hagan, Sister Vincent Marie CSJ LATHAM Sister Vincent Marie O'Hagan, CSJ, 96, died Saturday, April 5, 2014, at St. Joseph's Provincial House, Latham, N.Y. She had been a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet for the past 76 years. Sister Vincent Marie, the former Marie O'Hagan, was born on October 20, 1917, in Albany, daughter of the late Charles and Josephine Weber O'Hagan. After graduating from St. Ann's Academy in Albany, Sister Vincent worked for New York Telephone Company for three years. On August 15, 1938, she entered the novitiate of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet and professed final vows on August 15, 1943. Sister Vincent received a bachelor's degree in education from The College of Saint Rose and a master's degree in education from Mount St. Joseph's College in Buffalo. She served for 47 years in schools in the Albany and Syracuse Dioceses, including: St. Anthony's School, Syracuse; St. Francis de Sales School and Sacred Heart School, Utica; St. Peter's School, Saratoga Springs; St. Joseph's School, Green Island; Sacred Heart School and St. Augustine's School, Troy; St. Luke's School, Schenectady; and St. Mary's School, Ballston Spa. In addition, Sister Vincent served the Sisters of St. Joseph as vice-provincial superior in Hawaii; superior of Carondelet House of Studies, Albany; and assistant provincial superior in Latham. Sister Vincent Marie was a gentle and compassionate woman whose life was graced with a deep faith and a wholehearted love of God, her family and her religious community. Devoted to the Blessed Mother, she daily recited the rosary for the intentions of all those who asked her for prayers. Sister Vincent was a gifted educator who especially appreciated the joy of teaching children to read and the privilege of preparing them for First Communion. She had a great love of the ocean and enjoyed her years in Hawaii and her many vacations in Cape Cod. A loyal and faithful friend and a dedicated Sister of St. Joseph, Sister Vincent will be dearly missed. Sister Vincent Marie is survived by her nieces and nephews and their families: Karen Seaburg, Josephine (David) Vogel, Geraldine (Dennis) Wilson, Mary Ellen Munim, Amelia (Serge) Blanch, Gregory A. (Susan) Blanch and Thomas (Christine) Blanch; many friends; and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, with special mention of her dear friend, Sister Agnes Leo Winkle. In addition to her parents, Sister Vincent was predeceased by her beloved sisters: Theresa Yezzi, Jean O'Hagan, Sister Joseph Mary O'Hagan and Marjorie O'Hagan; her nephew, James Blanch; her niece, Ann Marie Blanch; and many friends in the Sisters of St. Joseph. Sister Vincent Marie's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 11, 2014, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of St. Joseph's Provincial House, Latham. Interment will be in Our Lady Queen of Virgins Cemetery on the Provincial House grounds. Calling hours will be held at the Provincial House on Thursday, April 10, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Contributions in Sister Vincent's memory may be made to the Development Office of the Sisters of St. Joseph, 385 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham, NY 12110.
