Hacker, Walter Daniel Sr. VALATIE Walter Daniel Hacker Sr. of Valatie passed away peacefully at the Stratton V.A. Medical Center in Albany on October 26, 2013 at the age of 92. Walt served in the 12th Armored Division in World War II
and received a Victory Award for his service. He was a longstanding member of the Rensselaer Elks Lodge
. Walt was a teacher at BOCES for more than 20 years where he ushered hundreds of students into the field of auto mechanics. He loved all things novel and innovative and had a unique ability to fix anything that came his way. Many associate Walt with Knickerbocker Lake where he lived for more than 70 years with his beloved wife Elsie. Walt loved the lake and always enjoyed the yearly return of the heron, the swans and the local fishermen. He was known for his kindness and friendliness to all he met. Walt is survived by a son, Christian Louis (Mina) Hacker; a daughter, Lynda Hacker (Carlos) Araoz; his grandchildren, Gregory (Barbara) Hacker, Tasha (Ryan) Hacker Horsnail, Martin Araoz, and Rodrigo Araoz; and his great-grandchildren, Adam, Andy and Aiden Hacker. He was predeceased by his wife, Elsie; his son, Walter Jr; his grandson, Walter III; and seven brothers and sisters. The family would like to acknowledge its gratitude to the staff of the Stratton V.A. Medical Center, a group that so warmly cared for him over the years. Walt will be missed deeply by his family and all those who had the good fortune to know him. Calling hours will be at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Route 9, Valatie, on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will take place at this same location on Thursday, October 31 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Valatie Rescue Squad.
