Walter J. Hauth Jr.

Hauth, Walter J. Jr. ALBANY Walter J. Hauth Jr., 91, passed away on December 8, 2012. Born in Albany July 30, 1921, he was the son of the late Walter and Kathryn Hauth. He was raised and attended school in Albany. A veteran of World War II, he served in the North Atlantic, Europe, Africa and the South Pacific, taking part in the invasion of France and Okinawa. He returned to work as a trainman on the New York Central Railroad, retiring after 45 years. He was a member of the Fort Orange Post 30, VFW Post 6776, was a life and charter member of the Rensselaer Elks Post 2073 and lifetime member of the United Transportation Union. He was also a member of the Polish American Citizens Club. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Burns Hauth; his son, Robert P. Hauth, and sister, Elizabeth Schaffer. He is survived by his children, William (Kathy) Schwing-hammer, Gail (Kevin) McCarthy, Lisa A. Hauth, Gregory (Cindy) Hauth and Karen (Mike Brown) Hauth; brother, Donald (Martha) Hauth and grandchildren, Beth Page, William Schwinghammer Jr., Kevin, Shaun (Julianna) and Erin McCarthy, Joshua and Rachel Hauth. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, Emma and Evan Page, Matias Schwinghammer and Ashton Morreale. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 10 a.m. in the Magin and Keegan Funeral Home, 891 Madison Ave. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Wednesday, December 12, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will follow the service in St John's Cemetery, 303 Sand Creek Road, Colonie. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to may send memorial contributions to Community Hospice of Albany County, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205 or the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY 12204.
